What are these, you ask? These are three portraits drawn by high school students and in display at the OAS Art Museum of the Americas on 18th Street NW, just north of Virginia Avenue, one of DC’s lesser visited museums. With no permanent collection on display, the rotating exhibits are often well worth your time. It is a small museum, with only about six or seven rooms of art.

The current exhibit is entitled Passport to Patriotism and is co-sponsoredvby the State Department. I didn’t take notes, thinking I would find information on the museum website, but it is sparse, saying nothing about the national art contest that featured elementary and middle school, as well as high school artists. I thought all of that work remarkable.
Again, because I took no notes, here is a little of what else is on display.

As to the photo right above (one of dozens of photos), it seemscto me to represent an oxymoron? See what I mean?
The exhibit closes after next weekend, so if you want to see it….now’s the time.
Last night, we joined 100 or so other leftist radicals at Dupont Underground to watch and listen to Woody Sez, part of Ari Roth’s Voices season, and it was fun, even though Guthrie’s life was anything but. Familiar and unfamiliar songs (about 35 of them), four performers, each playing multiple instruments – guitars, mandolins, banjos, zither, piccolo, harmonica, bass, violin, viola, bones, spoons and more. All acoustic.
The familiar songs included This Land is Your Land, SobLong, It’s Been Good to Know You, The Sinking of the Reuben James, Riding in My Car Car, and This Train is Bound for Glory.
Not included in the show is his 1954 Old Man Trump, written about Donald’s father and housing discrimination. You still have time to see the show. Do.

Gotta run, or I would tell you more. Woody Guthrie, a true patriot, along with the others. But he was hounded his entire life and accused of all sorts of things. But you know that. This show is a fine tribute.
There was more to yesterday. Services at Adas Israel, and a failed attempt to find parking for the State Department book sale, but…..youvdon’t care about that.
