This is not really about BM.

Do you remember those films of Adolph Hitler speaking to crowds in Germany? He would start off slowly, but as his speech went on, he would pick up speed, his tone would change, his look would become more intense, and soon he was like a 33 rpm recording being played at 333 rpm, seemingly totally out of control. To most, he seemed like a mad man. But to about 1/3 of Germany, he made perfect sense, and due to the political indifference of another third of Germany, that was enough to propel him to power.

It has been said by many, including me and maybe you, that the analogy here between Hitler and Trump are clear.

But yesterday’s hearing (not really a hearing, but more like a roast without humor), with Tony Fauci as the only person called to testify, showed that Trump is not the only Republican who manner of speaking can be compared to Hitler’s. The party is full of them.

And like Iran still has a nuclear program after it has been obliterated, so the Republican party will have a strong odiferous residue of Trump-smell after Trump’s reign is obliterated on January 20, 2029.

I have trained my Facebook algorithm to send me many right wing sites. Whether they are people or bots, I do not know, but they say vicious things, and the comments responding to the posts are equally vicious, often more so. Of course, Meta does nothing about this, because “both sides must be heard”.

But now we see that it isn’t only deluded or depraved Facebook users, it is also a large portion of Republican party leadership. If you have doubts, turn on any portion of yesterday’s hearing.

When Hitler came to power, the evening where his National Socialist party first went after political opposition with no holds barred is known as the Night of the Long Knives. Fauci is still alive and in one physical piece after yesterday, but only because we have a constitution that protects against self-incrimination. The knives have been out for Fauci since at least the waning days of the Biden administration, so Biden, to protect a man with a 50 year career as a dedicated and, for most of that time, universally respected government scientist, Biden pardoned him prospectively for anything he did prior to the date of the pardon, January 20, 2025.

Other than yelling at him and making absolute fools of themselves, the Republicans can’t do much to Fauci, other than try to get him for crimes committed after that date. The most likely allegation of criminal activity would be for perjury. And that is why Fauci had no choice but to take the 5th over 100 times.

Committee chairman Rand (Rant?) Paul, a man who doesn’t get along with most of his fellow Senators or his Kentucky neighbor seems to recognize this and says he intends to hold Fauci in contempt for taking the 5th. Lots of luck there, Randy.

But Paul wasn’t the only Republican shaming himself. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, a first class imbecile (that is true) is still spouting fake cures for Covid-19. Josh Hawley is trying to trap Fauci into answering fake questions (like, what color is my tie?) on the theory that if you answer one question, you have waived your right to plead the 5th. And Bernie Moreno of Ohio, with his WTF screed, hopefully accomplished nothing but give a helping hand to Sherrod Brown in their Senate race. So thank you, Bernie Moreno.

Oh well, that was yesterday and today is another day. Unfortunately, time for another verse, same as the first.
