Waiting, Sipping, Waiting

I am sitting in the lobby of the Bethesda Endoscopy Center waiting for Edie to finish her colonoscopy. The prep ended with a 4 a.m. dose of whatever it’s called, and Edie was not the only one who woke up. Then, we needed to be up for real at about 6:45 to get here in time for her appointment. So, as I now sit in thr lobby, what I need more than anything is a good cup of coffee.

The Bethesda Endoscopy Center is not located in downtown Bethesda, but in that no man’s land that is no longer really Bethesda, but not quite yet Rockville. It is on Executive Boulevard, a street with 6 or 8 story contemporary office buildings, each on its own large, landscaped lot, surrounded by parking.

The Endoscopy Center shares the third floor of its building with an office of Capital Digestive Care. Don’t let anyone fool you. These two organizations look to be one.

There are, I am sure, state of the art facilities. They have everything you could possibly need. Except that longed for  cup of coffee. In fact, that cup of coffee can’t be found anywhere in the building.

There is also no coffee in the next building up the street. Or in the one after that. You have to walk three buildings away to find a cafe in an office building on Executive Boulevard.

I do wonder what type of offices are in these buildings. This one, and the one with the cafe, seem spacious and quiet. I think there is a marquis in the lobby. I should look. My phone tells me that there is a shared office suite at this address. That probably explains the young woman in the elevator who told me she wished someone opened a coffee shop in her office, that they have extra space.

The cafe is at 6120 Executive Blvd.

The cafe is on the lower level. There is a large conference center down there, where they were serving breakfast, and where I almost helped myself. The spread looked pretty good. There is also a Game Room where, even though it was dark, I spotted a ping pong table. Who knows what else they have there. And on the lobby floor, there seems to be a large day care center.

6120 did not have a lobby marquis. It has a desk for a receptionist, but it was unmanned. My phone though makes me think that interesting things go on there. The American Association of Anatomists, the American Physiological Society, and the American Society of Human Genetics are all there, along with a variety of medical and dental offices.

Well, I still have about an hour to wait. I think I have said enough for today. I brought Rachel Maddow’s Drift to read. I have now had enough coffee to give it a try.
