Today is the referendum in Virginia as to whether its Congressional districts dhould be withdrawn to possibly give Democrats four more, and Republicans four fewer, seats. That is important, and as we drove almost 400 miles across the state last weekend, we saw many billboards on both sides of the issue.
Virginia is pretty purple. Its blue districts are blue and its red districts red. The governorship goes back and forth.
Odds say that the “yes” votes, the Democrats, will win by a small margin. Maybe so, but I am concerned. No Republican will vote for redistricting. And there are two kinds of Denocrats or left leaning independents who will. One consists of those who are strongly against gerrymandering as a matter of principle, no matter what the rationale. The other consists of moderates who voted for recently elected Democratic Governor Abigail Spanberger and who believe that she has moved too far to the left since her inauguration and who have developed a fear that other Democrats will do the same.
We shall see how many voters are in those two categories. And we shall see that soon.

the MAGA supporters have run a really dirty campaign, for example using a video of Obama many years ago arguing against gerrymandering and telling the African Americans that they will be disenfranchised and the KKK will rise again. When I received the post card with Obama supporting the no vote I was outraged. Peter Thiel of PayPal has funded millions to support the no vote. It all depends on NoVa. Even my son who is very liberal is undecided as how he will vote. I have hinted at changing my will

ha. If you don’t want to leave it to your kids, you can leave it to mine. I think the votexwill fail, not because of their campaign, but because of the two reasons I gave.
